1-2-3 Adopt! Introduces New Adoption Strategy
Now the adoption triad – birth mother, adoptive parents, and child – are forming into a kind of extended family. Many birth-mothers remain a part of the child’s life, and by extension, an important part of the adoptive parents’ lives. Everyone agrees this is a more humane approach and is more supportive of the child. However, in this new paradigm, it has become important for birth-mothers and adoptive parents to share a basic compatibility.”
1-2-3 Adopt! endeavors to match birth-mothers with compatible adoptive parents using a sophisticated version of the same technology used by Internet dating services. The difference is that the final determination is made by a human.
“Both birth-mothers and prospective adoptive parents fill out extensive questionnaires,” Sahafi explained. “The birth-mother sees a digital scrapbook with images and voice recordings from the adoptive parents we’ve matched to her. If she likes what she sees, she gives us permission to share her personal information with them. Then, if they both feel it’s a good match, they share contact information and take it from there.”
